Author at a mud bunga at Desert Safari Resort, Bhuj
An ancient tribal folk song of the Zat tribals in interior Kutch talks about a tribal king named Dhoramnath, who once angered Lord Shiva and got cursed. As penance for this curse, Dhoramnath stood on his head on top of Dhinodhar Hill in northwestern Kutch for 12 years. Lord Shiva was pleased with him and appeared before Dhoramnath and requested him to stop and reversed his curse. However Dhoramnath agreed, provided that the first place he looked, after stopping his meditation would became barren. After coming out of meditation Dhoramnath looked at the present location of the Rudramata Hills of Kutch. Immediately, the sea water evaporated and the Great Silver Rann of Kutch was created. I am writing this from my cosy room at Desert Safari Resort in Bhuj in Kutch district of Gujarat. One wakes up each morning listening to the sweet songs emanating from the beaks of innumerable birds who have sought sanctuary under the huge trees that surround this picturesque resort, nestled on a hill near Rudramata River in the quietest corner of Bhuj surrounded by acres of greenery.I am staying in a mud bunga made by the tribals of Kutch using traditional techniques.
