There are several short speed-boat rides around Chilka, which can be taken. It is advisable to let a local guide accompany you to the far-flung islands. After reaching Balugaon, I ventured into the outer fringes of Chilka Lake on a traditional canoe. Chilka supports an extraordinarily rich and diverse eco-system.
