An ancient tribal folk song of the Zat tribals in interior Kutch talks about a tribal king named Dhoramnath, who once angered Lord Shiva and got cursed. As penance for this curse, Dhoramnath stood on his head on top of Dhinodhar Hill in northwestern Kutch for 12 years. Lord Shiva was pleased with him and appeared before Dhoramnath and requested him to stop and reversed his curse. However Dhoramnath agreed, provided that the first place he looked, after stopping his meditation would became barren. After coming out of meditation Dhoramnath looked at the present location of the Kadiya Dhrow ravines of Kutch. Immediately, the sea water evaporated and the Great Silver Rann of Kutch was created. I am writing this from my cosy room at Devpur Heritage Homestay in Devpur in Kutch district of Gujarat. One wakes up each morning listening to the sweet songs emanating from the beaks of innumerable birds who have sought sanctuary under the huge trees that surround this picturesque homestay, nestled in a mango orchard in a quiet corner, surrounded by acres of greenery.
